I created a simple paper VFR flight planner and like to keep it on my kneeboard for VFR flights. I think of it like a checklist of things to research and write down before any flight, and a scratchpad to write things down during the flight.
This prints to a normal 8.5″x11″ piece of paper. Folded in half, it fits perfectly onto a kneeboard. If you have a printer that prints two-sided, the versions below will print four to a page.
The big area on the right side is to draw a picture of the destination airport’s runways and their traffic pattern direction, and the boxes are for frequencies, times, and weather reports. I use it like this:
